Review

Phil worked for the Crown, trying to uncover traitors that were helping France during the Napoleonic Wars.

One of his assignments took him to a known brothel, where he met the heroine, Sophia, clearly there against her will.

He rescued her and took her to his home, but she was less than happy with his high-handed ways, so she ran away.

They meet again some months later, and Phil discovers she is now companion to his friend’s wife. But the madam from the brothel was after Sophia, and Phil felt duty-bound to protect her, even if they did not get along well.

I love the sensual tension between the characters and their fun bantering. Phil’s protective nature balanced well with Sophia’s impulsiveness.

The side characters were also exciting and well-rounded: some villains and some lovely friends.

A Bachelor’s Pledge is a sweet historical romance with the right mix of romance and adventure.

About the Author

Some time ago Penny Hampson decided to follow her passion for history by studying with the Open University. She graduated with honours and went on to complete a post-graduate degree.

She then landed her dream role, working in an environment where she was surrounded by rare books and historical manuscripts. Flash forward nineteen years, and the opportunity came along to indulge her other main passion – writing. Encouraged by friends and family, three years later Penny published her debut novel, A Gentleman’s Promise, a traditional Regency romance. An Officer’s Vow came next, and will soon be followed by A Bachelor’s Pledge.

But never happy in a rut, Penny is now exploring suspense and the supernatural. The Unquiet Spirit, a spooky contemporary mystery set in Falmouth, Cornwall will shortly be published by Darkstroke.

Penny lives with her family in Oxfordshire, and when she is not writing, she enjoys reading, walking, swimming, and the odd gin and tonic (not all at the same time).
