Book Description

Zip up your puffer coat, winter has arrived! When Lexi Davies discovers that her father has sold the fishermen’s cottages she runs as holiday lets and where she also lives, she is heartbroken. Then Oliver Whimsy arrives at the boardwalk and announces that he is the new owner and Lexi realises that the future she was looking forward to enjoying at her cottages is over. Oliver might be handsome, wealthy and very sexy, but he’s new to the island and has already made a terrible impression on the locals. When the Scottish entrepreneur offers Lexi a job, she’s unsure whether she should accept. Unfortunately, she has little alternative if she wants to keep a roof over her head for the winter.

As Lexi gets to know him better, she discovers there’s far more to Oliver Whimsy than she or anyone else had imagined. Just what is the heartache Oliver’s trying so desperately to hide? And why was he so determined to buy the cottages? Lexi wants to find out, but in order to do so she’s going to have to spend rather a lot of time with him…

Review

Lexi lived her whole life by the sea and had endless memories of her deceased mother and grandmother at the family-owned fisherman cottages.

She was surprised to discover that her father had sold the cottages without even consulting her.

The new owner was the wealthy Oliver Whimsy, a man Lexi knew from having refused a public wedding proposal during a friend’s party.

When Oliver learned what Lexi’s Dad had done and that she had lost her home and work, he felt guilty and hired her to help him with a book he was writing.

I liked how Lexi never blamed Oliver for buying the cottages and how gentlemanly he behaved towards her.

Lexi’s father was abhorrent and got on my nerves more than once. I was impressed by how mature, and pleasant Lexi was in all her dealings with him.

I have not read the other books in the series, but I enjoyed the sense of friendship and community and really liked the other couples that were probably formed in the previous books.

The atmosphere is very well described, and I confess I had to tuck under my blankie because I could feel the cold snow and the wind.

Winter Whimsy is a snowy and inspiring holiday read.

Disclosure: I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

  1. Sitting looking out my window at the snow, this sounds like a perfect read to curl under a blanket with. I like the sounds of this one. I am glad to hear that I don’t need to read the full series to enjoy this one, but if I like this, i will definitely check them out. Great review Lu.
