A Match for the Rebellious Earl by Lara Temple | #BookReview @laratemple1 @HarlequinBooks #ARC #HistoricalRomance

A rebellious Earl falls for a commanding spinster.

A Match for the Rebellious Earl is book #2 in the Return of the Rogues series but can be read as a standalone.

I had the pleasure of reading the first book in the series, The Return of the Disappearing Duke, and loved it. To read my review, CLICK HERE.

Our thanks to the author and Harlequin for the advanced reader’s copy.

Review

Genevieve Maitland had an unconventional upbringing following the drum with her military grandfather.

After his death, she lived with her sister, who was recently widowed and lived under the strict rule of her in-law family’s matriarch, The Dowager Lady Westford.

To survive such a dreadful life, Gene used her commanding nature and military strategy knowledge to manipulate the various family members into doing her bidding.

When Kit, Lady Westford’s despised grandson, returns to the state as the new Lord Westford, he is less than thrilled to see his former army commander’s grandaughter playing all the cards in his new home.

If you read The Return of the Disappearing Duke (a lovely read, highly recommended), you have already met Kit, aka Captain Christopher Carrington. He was the sailing merchant that took Rafe and Cleo back to England.

The story starts as an almost enemies-to-lovers (they are never real enemies) and evolves to a friends-to-lovers.

There is some clever banter between the two and a very sensual and immediate connection.

Kit was more alpha than Rafe (Rafe is probably a gamma hero), but he was managed beautifully by the strong-willed Gene.

She was a lovely heroine—fighting hard for her future and the well-being of those she loved.

The romance is intense and sensual with the right amount of angst.

A Match for the Rebellious Earl is an intense and romantic historical read with two strong main characters who have to compromise and accept that they belong with each another.

Disclosure: I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

About the Author

Lara Temple writes strong, sexy regency romances for Harlequin Mills & Boon about complex individuals who give no quarter but do so with plenty of passion.

When she was fifteen Lara found a very grubby copy of Georgette Heyer’s Faro’s Daughter in an equally grubby book store. Several blissful hours later she emerged, blinking, into the light of day completely in love with Regency Romance but it took three decades of various fascinating but completely unrelated careers in finance and high tech before she returned to her first love.

Lara lives with her husband and two children who are very good about her taking over the kitchen table for her writing (so she can look out over the garden and dream). She loves to travel (especially to places steeped in history) and read as many books as possible. She recently went looking for that crowded little bookstore but couldn’t quite remember around what corner it was…hopefully it is still there and another girl is in the corner by the window, reading and dreaming…
